This project began in 2003, after the events of 9-11, when my eleven-year-old son began expressing concerns about his  future. He had become keenly aware of that dire day, the war in Afghanistan and Iraq, and the potential for nuclear war in India and Pakistan. To help him express his concerns and give voice to his anxieties, I encouraged him to write down the words he was learning as a result of this tragic event. Words My Son Has Learned Since 9-11 features photographs of my son holding signs of those words, as well as ones he already knew, but which had taken on new meaning.
